Dr. Callahan, started his pediatric experience in 1980 with a pediatric residency at the University of Connecticut. An interest in general pediatrics, led him to a small HMO in Poughkeepsie, New York. During his fourteen year stint there, he gained experience in clinical pediatrics, interpersonal relations and management forming a strong backbone for the rest of his career.

Staff model HMOs were falling out of favor in the 1990’s. Dr. Callahan moved to a pediatric group practice in rural northeast Pennsylvania. Working in a small town allowed him to make a deeper connection to the community through relationships with patients and families. After six and a half years, an opportunity came to move closer to family in southern New England. This led to his present position at Pediatric Associates of Hampden County. Where he is still caring for children and helping families.
